Rescue Me ID: 16-09-27-00063Rufus (male)

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Heartworm Positive,
 Fearful/Anxious

Initially found as a stray, Rufus found himself at an animal shelter and when nobody picked him up he was in need of a place to go. Rufus is a sweet little boy who needs someone with understanding and willingness to allow him to set his own boundaries and warm up on his terms. When first placed into foster care, Rufus was extremely fearful to the point of snapping. He has improved tremendously, however, still is wary of being picked up or people getting close to his face. This is something that may continue to improve with time, but given we are unsure of his treatment prior to coming to the rescue there is a possibility he may always be ... (Read More)fearful or snappy with these things. Rufus is very loving and snuggly when he is allowed to set the pace and gets along great with other dogs. Special Needs: heart murmur, Rufus requires an oral medication twice daily which costs less than $20 per month supply. Animal ID: 16-154Olive (female)

Yorkie    Age: Young Adult

Initial Bio 9/2/16 Tiny Olive is 5 years old and only 4.8 pounds. Olive had a rough start in life, but things have sure gotten better for her. She just had cataract surgery and she can now see. Olive is being fostered in Boydton, VA. Olive's adoption fee is $400 and includes all vetting (neuter/spay, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration). A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Olive by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page. Meet tiny Olive. Life had been pretty ... (Read More)hard for this very little girl. She ended up at the shelter sick and blind. A wonderful lady who does big dog rescue rescued her. That fateful day she went to pick up a lab and the shelter officer showed her this tiny yorkie they found wandering up the road. She was skin and bones, hairless, and blind from cataracts in both eyes. Olive had one hour left before the shelter was going to euthanize her and her life would come to an end. This wonderful person immediately took her home and started to care for her. She paid for Olive to have the cataract surgery that has restored her sight. With her loving care Olive's hair has grown back, she put on some weight, and is now a healthy dog. This angel knew that Olive needed to go to a Yorkie rescue. This way the best home could be found for her. So little Olive became a United Yorkie Rescue dog, and we will make sure that Olive gets the absolute perfect forever home. She will never ever find herself alone, sick, and on the streets again. Olive is such a happy, sweet girl. She is very healthy, though she will need to have eye drops put in her eyes twice a day for her life. What a small price to pay for being able to see again. Olive needs a few more vaccinations and her spay and she will be ready for her forever home. Olive gets along with other dogs, and she can go to a home with children over the age of 14 who understand that she is a small dog who needs to be treated very gently and with great care. If you think Olive is the dog for you please submit an adoption application for her. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in Virginia
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Virginia if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
