Rescue Me ID: 15-01-30-00305Pappy (male)

Yorkie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Pappy is 10 year old male Yorkshire Terrier blend weighing 5 pounds. He was found on the streets in very poor condition. He was covered with fleas/ticks, very dirty and hair very matted. He was barely able to walk and it appeared he had a hit problem. After being cleaned up and give food and care for about a week, he began to walk better and it became obvious it was not his hips, he was just very weak. He may have been kept in a kennel with little or no exercise to build muscle. Pappy is now dancing around the house like a normal, happy Yorkie mix, but still needs to gain some weight. He loves sleeping in a kennel at night, but during ... (Read More)the day he curls up at my feet while I work on the computer. He does not interact with the other dogs yet, but he interested in their presence and follows them around. He has come a long way in curbing his marking, but still has some urge. Belly bands help with that behavior. Children are not recommended. Pappy has been neutered, vaccinations up to date, has had a dental, heartworm negative, microchipped and started on heartworm/flea prevention. If interested, please apply from www.poquitapawsrescue.org. (Less)

Animal ID: 15-011Darcey (female)

Yorkie    Age: Senior

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Initial Bio 01/28/15: Meet precious little Darcey. She was surrendered to the shelter with a 'request to euthanize because she was old', by her elderly owner. The shelter vet thought she was healthy, despite being 17 years old, and deserved to live out her life in a loving environment. Darcey visited an outside vet with her foster mom, and that vet agreed. She has a healthy heart and lungs, and very good blood work. Darcey's only issues are a skin infection, already clearing with good food and antibiotics, and her eyes and teeth. She does see, and follows foster mom around everywhere she goes. And her hearing is wonderful! All Darcey craves ... (Read More)is your time and attention. She sleeps quite a bit, but wants to do that near you! If you think you can give this little girl a warm, loving environment where she can enjoy her senior years, please submit an application. Darcey will reward with as many kisses as you can handle. (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 15-01-29-00658Mickey (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Sweet and spunky Mickey is estimated to have been born around 01/12 weighs approximately 5 lbs, and we believe is a Long-Haired Chi/Yorkshire Terrier mix pup. He was a stray that ended up in the Garland shelter and his owners never came to get him, so DFW Pup Patrol stepped up to rescue him since he had an obvious skin condition. We found he had contracted a non-contagious common yeast skin infection and he is currently being treated successfully. Treatment consists of a medicated shampoo once a week. Eventually this can be discontinued when the condition is gone. Little Mickey gets along with other dogs of all sizes and cats also. He ... (Read More)is housetrained as long as he is given access to the outside several times a day and after meals. He is not an avid player, does not wrestle with the other dogs, nor is he enthusiastic about playing ball. He is very much a companion dog who likes to be near his humans. He is not a picky eater; however, he has a big appetite for his size eating twice a day. He doesn't chew on things that he shouldn't and he walks well on a leash. Mickey likes to sleep on the bed with his humans or in a bed on the floor near their bed. He doesn't do well confined in a crate for any period of time, so if he is to be crated he will need time and patience helping him to feel comfortable in one. He is a very happy boy with loads of personality who is just a joy to have around. If you are interested in adding this pup to your family, please fill out our Pre-Adoption Application. The link to this form can be found on the home page of our website, http://dfwpuppatrol.com. It can be submitted via email to info@dfwpuppatrol.com or faxed to 972-767-4849. All of our adoptable pups have an adoption fee of $200, regardless of our expenses, and it includes vaccinations, spay/neuter, heartworm test for pups 6 months and older, heartworm treatment if tested positive, deworming and/or fecal test, parasite treatment if tested positive, microchipping, any immediate known health issues, and pups 4 months and older are kept current on monthly heartworm prevention. Animal ID: 15-009Dot (female)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Initial Bio 01/23/15: Hello everyone, I have had a whirlwind week but I want to take a minute and tell you about myself! My name is Dot and my FM says I'm the sweetest 10# yorkie mix ever. I found myself in the care of United Yorkie Rescue about a week ago and although I'm not sure I understand all of the changes I've been through I know I have been getting (and giving) my share of love, and I LOVE to LOVE. My Fur Mom (Daisy) and my Fur Brother (Hershey) are also in UYR foster care. I have never been away from either one of them before but FM says I am adjusting well. I have several foster sibs that keep me entertained and I get along well ... (Read More)with all of them. I am a little shy but my FM says that's to be expected for a few days. I went to see the dogtor and she says I'm as near to perfect as they come, perfect weight, normal blood work, strong teeth and HW negative. My favorite things to do include laying on the back of someone's neck while they watch tv and dozing off, playing hide and seek under the covers at bedtime and giving kisses. I am house trained however I need extra encouraging when it is wet out. I was super well behaved at the dogtor and I got 5 stars at the groomers for great behavior. I have also met some young children while here and I am very gentle with them, they get kisses too! If you are looking for a sweet and gentle girl who just wants to be your world then Miss Dot is perfect! If you have any questions please feel free to drop FM an email. (Less)

She loves to sit in your lap and gives such sweet little kisses. She is housetrained and hasn't had a single accident. She is healthy and heartworm negative. She is scheduled to have her teeth cleaned on February 3rd and then she will be ready for her furever home. It would be wonderful if she could be placed with one or both of her pups, ...     Initial Bio 01/25/15: Hershey is a tiny little 3 year old, 5 pound yorkie-shih-Tzu mix that is being fostered in Grapevine, TX. He was surrendered along with his mother, Daisy, and his sister, Dot. His owner had passed away. He is a very sweet boy that loves to be held and have his tummy rubbed. He has no known health problems and is heartworm negative. He is housetrained except for a little marking which we hope will go away after he is neutered. He has always been with his mother and sister, so he does not like to be alone. It would be wonderful if he could be adopted with one of them, but if not, then he would do better in a home with ... She loves to play fetch with a ball literally her favorite thing and listens very well. After cleanup of the fire, the firemen found them in a pen behind the house. They were filthy, scared, starving, and cold. They were confiscated by the police. The pups range in from 8-10 weeks to around 3 years old. The pups are being treated for sarcoptic mange (skin condition). Despite what they have been through every one of these pups is ... Animal ID: 13-145Lexi (female)

Yorkie    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Update 04/19/14: Lexie is about to go back into training for her next steps. She's a sweet dog - loves adults and teenagers, but isn't good around young children with high energy. She seems to be very nervous around them and isn't on her best behavior. Lexie must be adopted into a home with only adults, and she needs to be the only dog. In this setting, she will thrive. Lexie's foster mom takes her to dog parks, but keeps her on a leash as she continues to work on her socialization skills. Update 4/3/14: Lexie is being fostered in Austin TX. She is 8 years old, 12 pounds and needs to be an only dog in a household with no children. ... (Read More)Lexie's foster mom continues to work on her socialization skills with a trainer who reports that Lexie is one of the most clever terriers she has seen. Lexie loves to play, is housetrained (but you need to watch for her signal), is leash trained and loves to sit on your lap. Lexie is an active and loving little girl who needs a bit more work to make her a perfect companion. Please watch for progress updates on Lexie. INITIAL BIO 09/09/13: Roll out the red carpet, ladies & gents, because we definitely have a super special gem here... Introducing Lexie! Lexi is 8 yrs young and is being fostered in Texas. This sweetness of a girl is quite the entertainer! She has personality to the moon & back! I've only had her for 7 days, so I'm certain there remains much more to learn about lil' Miss. As she settles into her new surroundings & begins to express more, I will update my thoughts on her needs and what I think her best forever home would look like, but for now, here are a few things I've noticed: She LOVES to play!! Can't stress this enough! She seems to prefer the ball, but she'll fetch, (and retrieve very nicely, dropping at your feet), any toy. She definitely needs to be monitored (when outside in the hot weather) because she'll fetch endlessly, exhausting herself, & heat exhaustion can happen quick with terrible consequences. I always have water on hand when we go to the park & make her rest every 3 to 4 throws. She LOVES people, (she's an owner surrender, by the way, who reported Lexie exhibiting anxious behavior around young children, but I have yet to observe this). She walks well on a leash, is housebroken (she always goes to the door, but you must be observant of this bc it's her only que), she barks when someone is on the porch, but not otherwise. Her favor spot is on your lap and she likes to be touching you when it's time for sleeping. She is my permanent shadow at the moment. This may change as she feels more relaxed & comfortable with the changes. Her recall at the dog park is pretty good after only a week. I always have training treats to reward when she responds. Usually, however, she's either chasing her ball or begging you to chunk it, so recalling her isn't necessary. At this point, there is only one issue that I see & that is that she will probably need to be an only dog. She has exhibited dog aggression over her toy/ball, whomever's lap she's in, & on occasion, even the couch. I've seen her advance towards a dog to defend whatever territory she believed to be threatened. She seems pretty adamant with this behavior, so I'm not sure, at 8 yrs old, it'd be likely to change. Other than that, Lexie is an outstanding girl. She's a true joy & gives so much... Whoever is lucky enough to adopt her will fall completely in love! I have no doubt because I'm skipping down that road after 1 short week (Less)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

The Millennium Falcon is in for repairs, and Han and Chewie are stranded without a place to call home! These friendly boys were dumped at the school where I work. I was certain they had a loving family searching for them somewhere, but no one has come forward to claim them. All alone in a galaxy far, far away, these boys need a forever home! They are super friendly, to both animals and people. Han (pictured on left) appears to be a Dachshund/Pomeranian mix, and Chewie (pictured on right) appears to be a Terrier mix. Han is very loving, and wants nothing more than a lap to lounge in! Chewie is quite playful and loves to run around the yard ... (Read More)with a toy, or chew on a bone. These boys are very bonded, and their ideal home would be together, but I am open to considering separate homes for the right adopters. The adoption fee includes all vaccinations, de-worming, heartworm test, neuter surgery, de-worming, flea treatment, and bath. Won't you give these space stranded boys a planet to call home? I know that if you do, the force will be with you! (Less)

You want to see flippin cute? Call to meet this little girl. Found laying along a country road with no homes in sight, one of our volunteers stopped thinking she might be dead. When he got out of the car and sat down, she lifted her head and promptly walked over to crawl in his lap and give him a kiss. We looked high and low for her family with no luck. Now she is completely vetted, kennel and housetrained, gets along well with other dogs and wants a forever home. She can and WILL climb a chain link fence...especially quick if not watched so a safe fence is required. Once she has bonded, she goes out for potty time, plays a bit and then ...     Dancer was saved from high kill shelter and is one sweet darling. She I named Dancer because she dances on her hind legs for a treat. She came to us under weight but now is in balance and at 12 lbs is a great size dog. She loves people, children and other dogs. Her favorite pastime is tug of war and squeaky toys but she is also very content on a lap watching TV and getting pets. She is completely vetted and ready for her new forever home.     Poor Avery got caught running about and we have no idea why someone didn't come looking for him. He is a 10.5 lb 5 year old cutie that is full of loves and wants to snuggle. Gets along well with other dogs, plays with toys, and is comfortable in a kennel when he has to be there but much prefers a laps. In a high kill shelter he had little prayer, was dirty, full of stickers and mats but is cleaned up now and a real cutie. He will nuzzle your neck to say hi. Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jiggy is a sweetheart. He loves everyone and adores other dogs. He chases cats, and when we were on our walks, he went nuts over the birds and the squirrels. He will definitely take off chasing something if not on a leash. He weighs 7 pounds and is also completely trained to a doggie door. HW negative too. His back left leg is shorter than his right. The vet did x-rays and found that it is an old break - actually two old breaks - that have healed and calcified. He is not in pain and it does not slow him down one bit. He runs, jumps and plays, and will play fetch for hours. He loves tennis balls. He does use the leg, but holds it up mostly. ... (Read More)He is very playful in general. I would recommend no small kids for him though, he's pretty tiny. (Less)

Mr Max was rescued from a high kill shelter in the DFW area. Max has not had a great life. His previous owners did not take the time to socialize him properly with other dogs, and kids. He is great with my foster pack, but I have taken the time to work with him on his trust. He loves to be held, and petted and really cuddled. He is capable of being the best dog ever, but he needs a firm command, and consistency so he can be the best Max that he can be. Around you only he is the sweetest thing ever. He is very healthy, crate trained and potty trained. Could you be his special forever home?

Hi I'm Lela and I was saved from the local pound. I'm still a puppy & need a family who is willing to take some time to house break me and one with another active pooch for me to play with so it probably be best if someone is home part of the day to work with me. The rescue gals aren't really sure what I am but a lot of people are saying Dachshund mixed ,maybe with a Yorkie, what ever I am it's a small breed. I am about 7 months old and full of energy and see most dogs as potential playmates. I am spayed, current on my shots and micro chipped. ARNT will have to check out the fence around the yard at my new home so I can only be adopted ... (Read More)real close to DFW area. My adoption fee is $200. If you think I might be the little girl for you, please email us for a pre adoption questionnaire. It usually takes ARNT about two days to review it and they will get back to you to schedule a meet and greet if your home seems like a good fit for me. If all goes well ARNT will want to check out the fence around the home to make sure I can't get out and get hurt. Love, Lela xoxoxo (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in Texas
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

lnteresting Yorkie Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Yorkies were probably developed by Scotsmen working in Yorkshire, England. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed.
