Like thousands of other animals, Zoey and Charlie found themselves without a home after the devastation from Hurricane Harvey. Their home was completely gone, leaving their owner and the pup pair to move in with family. For the next few months, searching for a pet friendly home deemed impossible and it was thought best for Zoey and Charlie to find a home where they weren't overcrowded and had a home and yard of their own again. At 7 and 9 years old, Zoey and Charlie are not spring chickens, however, they do act much younger than their age. They will chase after their toys, enjoy going for walks, and love to tag along to every and any pet ... (Read More)friendly place that allows them. House trained, crate trained, and leash trained, this bonded pair are the easiest of pups. Zoey and Charlie would like to find a home together as they have been through so much together-it's nearly impossible to see one without the other even when just entering a room in the house! He definitely acts like both breeds at times. He can be barky when excited and then calms down and can be sweet. He's working on house training and socialization. He loves to run the fence line so a securely fenced yard is a must! He's been groomed since this picture was taken and had to have several mats taken off his legs but he will soon be back to his adorable self. Please contact us for an adoption application.

Maya is a sponsored posting; she is being fostered in Gainesville Texas through United Yorkie Rescue. http://www.unitedyorkierescue.org Maya is a 10 yr. old 6 lb. girl who has lived with her Frenchie fur siblings who experienced an unfortunate accident 4 years ago that changed her life as well as her safety. Her family reached out to United Yorkie Rescue asking for help. Maya's story; four years ago in the middle of the night, the house security alarm went off. There was complete panic and turmoil for both the family and Maya and her furry siblings. The stress of the moment caused Maya and one of the other family dogs to engage in a fight. ... (Read More)Something happened in that moment that unfortunately created continued battles over the years between Maya and the other dog. Her family engaged trainers in an effort to resolve the issue; meanwhile they keep the dogs separate for their safety as they will engage in fighting. Recently, one of the dogs jumped the gate separating them and Maya almost lost her eye. Luckily the injury only required stitches. They, including the trainers, have not determined with certainty that it's Maya instigating the altercations, but she definitely react with engaging in a fight. We want to help Maya find a home she'll be happy in, she's a very loving little girl and does get along with other dogs, just not the dogs in her home since the day of the alarm. Maya loves children, and could be a good candidate for a male dog. Yorkie Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Toto is fostered in Frisco TX through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. Toto is a 9 yr old, 16lb. Yorkie mix boy who came to United Yorkie Rescue in November 2017. Toto came to UYR an owner surrender due to health issues. Toto was 12 weeks old when his family took him and made him theirs; they loved him very much and have been checking in on him. Toto is a ball of fluffy energy! He loves to race through the house sliding on the hardwood floors making his foster family laugh. On one excursion outside Toto discovered the sprinkler and came back in the house (through the doggy door) dripping wet. He gets along well with his ... (Read More)foster fur sister, he follows her around and gives her tons of kisses. When she lays down, he lays down next to her with his paw on her back or his head on her back. Toto has been diagnosed with diabetes, his sugar levels are regulated through twice daily insulin shots and a healthy monitored diet. He is very good about getting his shots and starts wagging his tail as soon as he sees the insulin come out because he gets a treat after his shot. Toto is house trained and micro chipped. Very loving and affectionate, he's never bitten but his former family said he gets nervous around small children so he will need a forever home that does not have small children. Ideally a home with another dog to play with and a fenced yard, lots of love and affection, and commitment to his insulin schedule and a healthy diabetes-friendly diet would make this boy's dreams come true! If you think you could love a sweetie like Toto, please complete an adoption application at Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. (Less)

Animal ID: 17-189Hank (male)

Yorkie    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hank is fostered near Dallas/Ft. Worth Texas by United Yorkie Rescue, http://unitedyorkierescue.org. Hank is an 8 yr. old, 8 lb. Yorkie boy who came into United Yorkie Rescue in September 2017. Hank has a serious injury, which was the reason his mamma surrendered him, so he can get the care he needs. Only Hank knows what happened to him. Hank's mamma said he slipped and fell, and she found him holding up his leg. She thought maybe this was a patella issues then over the weekend bruising and swelling settled in. She began calling vets for pricing to get him seen but financially she just couldn't afford the cost so she reached out to UYR. ... (Read More)Hank's foster mom met Hank and his mamma at the after hours Vet to see what was going on. Tears flowing, Hank's mamma said goodbye to her baby of 8 yrs. so UYR could get medical help going immediately. Sadly his slip/fall accident does not seem to be so. Hanks femur is shattered and broken. The treating vet said, while looking at the x-ray's:'this is extreme blunt force trauma... no slip in the tub, he may need amputation.' Sadly in rescue we see all kinds of maltreatment and conditions, but this boy's injury is heartbreaking. Hank was at the Vet a couple of nights so his pain could be managed and he could get antibiotics to fight bone infection, and medication for the swelling and bruising. Hank had surgery, 7 screws and plates were used to stabilize his leg. We pray that this baby will heal. We elected to have Hank see an Orthopedic specialist in an effort to save this leg. Two consults resulted in advice that amputation was the most likely outcome, but we believed Hank deserved what his first home failed to do for him. A day after bringing him home from surgery, he woke in the middle of the night shaking, he was unable to pee and dripping blood. He was rushed back to the ER Vet, as it was the weekend. Turned out he had stones, his bladder was throwing clots as they were too large to pass. So Hank went back in for removal of the stones. We are well over $6,000 with emergency room visits, hospitalizations specialty surgeries, and we have such a long road to go yet with recovery. Hank is not adoptable until we get him fixed up and he's had time to recover, however we're asking for prayers and good thoughts for this sweet little boy. If you want to help by sending a few dollars to support his recovery, we'd so much appreciate it. We take in pups in good and bad condition, our focus is to treat the dog and get them better if possible, and/or give them the best quality of life through good care. If you can help Hank, and want to follow his progress, please go to the following link.     Zoey is fostered in Plano Texas through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org Zoey is a sweet 10 pound, 8-year-old Yorkie girl who came to United Yorkie Rescue in June 2017 from a shelter. he was a stray in the Dallas TX area who was covered in fleas and burs. The burs were all over her head and face, preventing her from shutting her eyes or blinking. Thankfully, she was taken to animal control and the shelter reached out for rescue to take her. Zoey would love to be your companion if she is going to be the only pet in the house. She would love to lay near you, but not on your lap. Zoey gets along with her 4 fur siblings, ... (Read More)but we separate her from them at feeding time. Zoey would love to be the only pet in the house or maybe have one older fur sibling bigger than her and not too hyper, for companionship. Zoey likely only had the companionship of other dogs and so she relates better to them, in the right situation. Zoey gets around well but she will not be a fan of long walks, even though she loves the outdoors and is no longer afraid of grass. She is not a fast runner but she likes to try running and keeping up with her 4 fur siblings. She will need someone who doesn't expect a whole lot from her but desires a faithful companion. Zoey will need a sturdy ramp to get up on the couch on her own. Her body is still trying to recover from living her whole life in a cage so ABSOLUTELY no cages or crating, please. Zoey is so sweet and enjoys kisses on her forehead, belly rubs and scratches from her human. She loves her nice and comfy bed and snores while catching her naps. Zoey is a very sweet girl, well behaved and gets along with other dogs. To complete an application for sweet little Zoey go to http://unitedyorkierescue.org to complete an application. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in Texas
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Texas if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

lnteresting Yorkie Trivia Low-Cost Texas Spay & Neuter Clinics
Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Yorkies were probably developed by Scotsmen working in Yorkshire, England. Piebald Yorkies came about by an accident of genetics in 1984 and are now considered a separate breed, the Biewer Yorkie. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed. Yorkies have been popular ladies' lap dogs for many years.
