Rescue Me ID: 14-06-11-00483Douglas (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Douglas is an 11 yr old Yorkie that was an owner surrender. He is a lovable little dog. He is 11 years old but you wouldn't know it. He is active for an 11 year old dog. His teeth look great. He just has so much live in him for his age. He's neutered and up to date on shots. He's fully house trained. He is on the bigger size of a yorkie so he may be a mix breed. He does have some anxiety issues. He don'ts like to be kenneled and will bark while in the kennel. Outside of the kennel he is very well behaved and quiet. So he's very vocal in his kennel but quiet outside of it. At night he sleeps in his foster moms room and he will lay on the bed ... (Read More)for a little while and then he moves to sleep under the bed. He gets nervous with fast movement or loud noises. He is a pacer when he's nervous too. Once he decides the room is safe he settles down and will lay on the back of the couch. He loves to sit next to you on the couch. He will play with some of the other small dogs in the foster home. He doesn't care much for the 13 yr old kiddo in the home though so he's going to have to go to a home with much older kids or no kids at all. He doesn't like to be grabbed quickly and snuck up on. He will nip to defend himself if he feels threatened. He needs quiet home where her can unwind and be himself. He is having some sneezing issues right now so we are working on figuring that out. He has improved a lot since he's been in foster care. He was sneezing so hard when we first took him in he would bash his head on the ground and he got a sore above his one eye. But the sore is healing and he hasn't had a horrible sneezing attack lately, just small sneezes every now and then so I think he was allergic to the food they were feeding him at the rescue we got him from so a grain free feed is probably going to be a must for Douglas. If you would like to give this sweet dog a great home please fill out an application at www.mitchellanimalresuce.org His adoption fee is $125.00 (Less)

Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in South Dakota if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

lnteresting Yorkie Trivia Low-Cost South Dakota Spay & Neuter Clinics
Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Piebald Yorkies came about by an accident of genetics in 1984 and are now considered a separate breed, the Biewer Yorkie. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed. Yorkies have been popular ladies' lap dogs for many years.
