|Animal ID: 17-011Roscoe (male)|
Initial Bio 1/14/17 Roscoe is an adorably scruffy 8 year old, 11 pound Yorkie Mix being fostered in Winston-Salem, NC. Roscoe's adoption fee is $275. All adoptions through United Yorkie Rescue require a Vet reference, personal references and a home visit. Roscoe found himself in a kill shelter when his owner surrendered him as they were unable to care for him any longer. He could hardly walk when brought in as his nails were so long, they were turning into his pads and he was covered in fleas. His eyes are clouded with cataracts and his teeth are badly in need of attention. He was listed as friendly, but 'jumpy' when touched. Roscoe was more than just jumpy.......He was terrified! Roscoe's luck changed dramatically when his UYR Foster Mom showed up and whisked him away from that yucky old shelter. He rode shotgun on his freedom ride while he and foster mom talked all the way to Winston Salem, NC, where we laid out our plan. Meeting his foster brothers and sisters, he was shy and seemed afraid. He was jumpy at their quick movements, but submissive to their curiosity of him. He explored the fenced in area for at least an hour and began to become familiar with some of the surroundings. Then it was into the house as there were things to do. First, Roscoe had a brushing. He absolutely loved it. No sensitive skin here! Then he had a little trim. It is apparent he has not spent a lot of time on a grooming table. He then advanced to the bath, where it seemed he had been before, and was he quite good. Not a fan of the blow dryer, he did like the trim, and enjoyed more brushing. After the bath, he was quite playful and followed foster mom around while she cleaned up the grooming station. Upstairs, in foster mom's office he has made himself quite comfortable in his new little bed, napping. Once he awoke, he was fed nutritious food then brushed some more, and loved, and kissed and hugged. Roscoe has a dogtor visit already scheduled for Monday morning. We will have lab work and schedule him for an extensive dental. He has early onset cataracts and his vision will be assessed. He will also receive a very thorough exam to make sure he is otherwise healthy. We think this little fellow is almost ready for his furever so be quick in applying so that we can find the best home for him. So far he has proven himself to be house trained, and rides well in the car. He loves to be near his person, and is believed to have been an only dog. If you have any questions concerning Roscoe, please contact his foster mom at firstname.lastname@example.org. If you would like to donate to Roscoe's care, please go to our website www.unitedyorkierescue.org and click the Looking For Love link. |Animal ID: 17-006Zen (male)|
Initial Bio 1/9/17 Zen is a 9-year-old, 15 pound Yorkie male being fostered in Winston-Salem, NC. All adoptions through United Yorkie Rescue require a Veterinarian Reference, 3 Personal References and a physical Home Visit. Zen's adoption fee is $250 and includes all Vet care, dental, immunizations, spay/neuter, micro-shipping and registration to new owner's name. Zen landed in a kill shelter when his owners turned him in because they could not take care of him. Zen is in rough shape. He was infested with fleas and has lost most of his hair due to flea dermatitis. This made him develop a bad secondary fungal infection so Zen has very little hair on his trunk. His teeth are in bad shape and he will need to have several extractions. He also has a condition called chronic dry eye and a large abdominal hernia. We don't know much at all about his previous life but since he is an older fellow who has never been neutered there's a good chance he was a stud dog. So far Zen is sweet and calm as his name implies and even 'sang' a bit to his foster Mom on his 'freedom ride' home from the shelter. He loves belly rubs, petting, and any type of human contact. He has no fear of humans, and is very submissive. Zen has settled down and is comfortable laying on the couch with his person. He is adapting well with other pups and is curious about everything. He is very observant and loves for you to talk to him. Zen is familiar with a harness and leash, however has not had much training in using it for long walks, but I am sure with a little practice he will enjoy the walking and learn the leash very rapidly. He travels in a vehicle well and sometimes sings with the radio. He is not housebroken but will be working on that with his foster Mom. He is a perfect gentleman on the grooming table and is a breeze to bathe. Zen does not enjoy the crate; he prefers a gated area instead. Zen has seen the Vet and is receiving all the care he needs. Surgery to fix his hernia is scheduled and we will address each of his medical problems. He has gotten a full lab panel to make sure there is nothing that would complicate his surgery and we are awaiting results. He is receiving medicated eye ointment for conjunctivitis and will need to be on eye drops daily for life. He is also receiving oral medications for allergy relief, itch suppression and skin and oral infections. He's also receiving medicated baths to soothe his inflamed skin. More importantly Zen is now safe. He is sleeping in a soft, warm bed, eating nutritious food and getting so much love and attention that he has lacked. If you have any questions concerning Zen, you can contact his foster mom at email@example.com. This little fellow has a few hurdles to cross before he is ready for his FUR-EVER home. Zen's care will amount to many hundreds of dollars, possibly over $1000. Please help us with the cost of his care if you can by going to our website www.unitedyorkierescue.org and clicking the 'Looking For Love' link on the left hand side. Then scroll to North Carolina (all dogs are listed by state in alphabetical order) until you find Zen's Bio. There is a PayPal button directly below his Bio. And as always, THANK YOU! (Less)

He is super sweet, loves his belly rubbed, and would like nothing better than an older person to be home w/ him for lots of love! No crate needed! ! He can be 'nippy' if he is surprised so he should not live with small children for that reason -though he loves them! (Less)

Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
