Sophie is an adorable 2 year old Yorkie/Cairn Terrier mix who only weighs 7 1/2 lbs. She is very sweet, loves attention and loves to cuddle. She does well with all other dogs and has a moderate amount of energy. Due to her size, we are looking for a home with children over 7. Sophie is crate trained and is doing well with her potty training. She walks well on a leash and is a great car rider. |Animal ID: 16-065Axl (male)|
Update 5/16/2016. Axl is a 6 year old, 7-pound yorkie boy. He is being fostered in Winston Salem, NC. Axl's adoption fee is $400 and includes all vetting (neuter, dental cleaning, immunizations, microchip and chip registration). A Vet reference, personal references, and home visit are required for adoption. You may apply to adopt Axl by going to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and completing the adoption application located on our home page. This sweet boy, whose foster mom said his name Axl is just another name for love, is full of love and Yorkie kisses. He is attentive, smart, handsome, and loves to be with his person. He is truly a Yorkie dream come true. He loves belly rubs! He will lie on his back in your lap as you rub his belly, and finally he'll just go off to sleep. Then you can actually move him like a baby to another place on the couch! He is so loving and trusting. Axl loves to explore the outdoors with his person or with a pup friend who is just his size. He loves trotting about in the fenced yard. He has that long lean body and mid length hair. He is quite handsome as he parades about. He does well on a leash and enjoys rides in the car. He gets along with everyone, even cats. Axl is almost house trained. His foster mom does keep a bellyband on him, but it is rarely wet upon removing. Axl does not like to be in a crate. He is fine in a room with a gate if he must be contained. If you put down potty pads he will use them. Axl had a full dental along with a radiograph of his gums. He was scheduled to have a sinus flush. Luckily the medication prescribed cleared up his nasty sinus infection and it was determined he no longer needed the flush. However, due to the extent of his sinus infection, aggravated by allergies, the vet believed it affected his teeth. Therefore all of his teeth, the ones he did have left, were pulled except for one. His gums were X-rayed and there was no root/gum infection found. Axl is adjusting well and is eating like a champ. He still munches dry food, but prefers wet with a little boiled chicken mixed in with it. He feels so much better with all of the infection gone. Axl's sinus/allergy infection was treated with Apoquel. This medication is used primarily for itching, however it has recently been effective as an alternative to prednisone. Since sinus/allergy issues usually reoccur throughout the dog's life, alternative medications are sought as prednisone may have damaging effects on the kidneys with repeated usage. Axl has shown a little abnormal protein in his kidneys. The vet and his foster parent are monitoring that. The levels have decreased in his follow up lab tests. But they will continue to be monitored. Axl is scheduled for neutering in the next two weeks. He is up to date on all vaccinations, and shots. Axl needs a home with someone who will be home most of the time. He needs someone who has the time to spend with him and will show him how much love there is in the world to give. Axl would do well in a home with children over the age of 12 and/or another friendly loving pup his size. Axl will be a trusted, true companion. He is one of the most lovable yorkies his foster mom has ever met. Every inch of him is stitched in love. If you would like to adopt Axl, please go to our website at www.unitedyorkierescue.org and complete an adoption application for him. You can contact his foster mom at Laloba1016@yahoo.com (Less)

Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in North Carolina if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
