Alvin is a 2-3 year old yorkie / chihuahua mix. He does shed and would not be good for a family who has allergies. He is a very sweet and calm little guy. He is very tiny, and would be content just sitting in your lap. He is pretty shy at first, but opens up with time.

Rescue Me ID: 16-05-10-00369Arizona (male)

Yorkie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Arizona is a 4 year old purebred male yorkie we have rescued from a puppy mill. He is very sweet, but very very timid. He will need a lot of time to adjust to his new home. He does not have an aggressive bone in his body, he has only known a small cage for the only 4 years of his life that he has had, so human love and interaction are new concepts to him. If you are interested in adopting this little guy, please contact us. We are looking for a calmer household.

Yorkie    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed

Just Released From a Puppy Mill! Beans was born about March 20, 2009 and weighs about 11 lbs. She is just adorable and was wonderful while we were handling her for vaccines and photos. Although this girl has lived her life in a cage birthing puppies for pet store shelves she is quite social and we feel she should turn around nicely and begin acting more like a normal dog, who had a normal life, in the near future. She will need house training as she has been in a cage 24/7 eating, sleeping, and going potty with the bottom of the cage being wire so the waste falls through to a tray. We have a lot of good information on our main website to ... (Read More)help you with turning around a mill dog. Please do a little reading before applying for this cutie as she will be a project for awhile and your response to her behavior is key in the speed at which she recovers from her past. She is wonderful with other dogs and most mill dogs do better with another normal dog in the house showing them the ropes! A mill dog can be a bit of work, but the moment that you see the look of love in their eyes it is the most rewarding feeling in the world!!!! (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-04-18-00445Harley (male)

Yorkie    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Harley is a 5 year old Yorkshire terrier who came to our rescue from the NYC shelter. He has had emergency surgery for bladder stones which caused him considerable pain and could have cost him his life. He is on special food which is generally a great preventative from having the stones return. Harley is a small guy and he is adorable. He is a very loving boy and would love nothing more than to sit on your lap and kiss you and be your best friend. He does do ok with other dogs but he would really enjoy being your special one and only as well. Harley will be placed with older children only and this is just a precaution. Sadly even ... (Read More)though Harley is the sweetest dog you could ever meet he did once bite BUT he was awakened out of his sleep by someone who he didn't really know and they decided to lean down and kiss him goodnight. Now I have had many dogs and know dogs startle when awakened and will jump, growl or bite even if they are not inclined to do so normally. It is 100 percent a safety measure that we insist on placing him with a family that understands that this happened and that they are cautious in the future. Harley needs dog savy people. He will love pretty much everyone he meets. He has no other behavioral issues. You can handle, carry him, kiss him, hug him, take his food away, take toys from him without so much as a flinch. Must be over 21 to adopt. Must live on Long Island or surrounding area without crossing a bridge. Vet reference needed and personal references as well. Home visit required. (Less)

Animal ID: 16-064Missy (WI) (female)

Yorkie    Age: Senior

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Personality: Low Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Missy is fostered near Madison Wisconsin through United Yorkie Rescue. http://unitedyorkierescue.org To find out more about Missy contact her foster mamma at:mschristinedwyer@gmail.com Missy, a very sweet 13 year old Yorkie Girl whose about 11 pounds, came to United Yorkie Rescue in March 2016. Her mamma got her as a puppy and she lived her whole life with her, but recently she became unable to take care of her little Missy and contacted United Yorkie Rescue to see if we could take her. She seems to miss her Mamma, but is getting lots of love from Foster Mom and the 'boys' who live with her. Missy has a clean bill of health, but does have ... (Read More)some arthritis, hearing loss and cataracts causing loss of most of her sight. She has a little skin irritation, and does not eat hard kibble, so is being fed a diet of soft healthy whole foods, which should help her skin. She has an enlarged liver, but blood work shows she's fine. Despite bad eyesight, Missy is doing well getting around, she's learned to navigate her foster home and has mastered the transition from house to sidewalk. Missy has never walked on a leash and is not comfortable at this stage in her life with a harness, and with her arthritis and hearing/sight challenges as a senior, we give her that respect and will not force learning, she prefers her naps and cuddles broken up with visits out to the fenced yard. She is largely ignoring the two Yorkies who live in her foster home, but she has taken well to the men in the household. Her prior owner used puppy pads in the house, and Missy is 50/50 on them in the foster home. Missy will need a quiet home, no small children or young rambunctious dogs, and someone who is home most or all the time. In her retirement years she needs a special person that will look at her age as just a number and shower her with love and devotion. This little darling will melt your heart.     Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
