Rescue Me ID: 17-06-18-00050Peanut (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected, Aggressive

Peanut has scars on his head and neck. I don't know what they are from. I think he would be good with the right person. I had him work with a trainer and he did great. The problem is that I am not assertive enough to maintain that good behavior. Peanut is a loving dog but mostly with family, not with outsiders. He barks easily and has nipped a few people, but hasn't done that in a year or so. I think he just needs someone who is firm and consistent.

Rescue Me ID: 17-03-20-00063Ziggy (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Those Life Changes Got In The Way! Ziggy was born about August 27, 2008 and weighs about 9 lbs. He is with us because the young lady that raised him took him through all her life changes...until now. She moved into an apartment that doesn't allow dogs. Off Craig's list he came and into the safety of Joyful Rescues - he's a lucky boy! Ziggy isn't perfect and can be a bit protective, your typical small breed/terrier kind of trait. He is good with kids 10 and above and great with other dogs. He's actually been extremely good here with all of us and found the dog door easily watching everyone else even though he's much smaller than most. ... (Read More)Ziggy is house trained, good on leash and fine in the car. We here he has some wanderlust so a fenced yard or a leash at all times will be necessary. Even though fine with other dogs we are told he would do better as an only dog as he adores one on one attention and is a major snuggler! Even though they said house trained we just like to warn that sometimes these little dogs benefit from a potty floor pad when they just can't hold it any longer. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in New York
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

lnteresting Yorkie Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Yorkies were probably developed by Scotsmen working in Yorkshire, England. Piebald Yorkies came about by an accident of genetics in 1984 and are now considered a separate breed, the Biewer Yorkie. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed. Yorkies have been popular ladies' lap dogs for many years.
