Peanut is a one year old male yorkie chihuahua. He turned 1 in February. He is currently in a foster home with older children, small dogs and cats. He gets along with all of them well. He is bonded with one particular dog in the house and are constantly together, playing and even sleep in the same dog bed. For this reason, we are looking for a home with another small, playful dog. Peanut had a luxating patella that needed surgery. He took a while to recover, but is now completely healed. For this reason, we are looking for a home without young children, we don't want him to be accidently reinjured. Please fill out the online application at folas.org. Peanut is in a foster home and approved applicants can make an appointment to meet him. (Less)

The police were called to the home of a 90 year old woman and her 60 year old daughter. The mother had been sitting in a chair not moving for three days until the daughter finally called the police. They think she had a stroke. When the police arrived at the house they found 6 dogs, 200 cats, and a house covered in filth and feces. The NJSPCA and AC went to the house the next day, but the daughter had quickly managed to get rid of 2 of the dogs and all of the cats except 4. No one knows what happened to all those other animals, but they are keeping a close eye on that house. We said we'd take the 4 dogs and another rescue took the 4 cats. The dogs are all female, all have been spayed, and all were taken to the vet prior to being released to us by the NJSPCA and AC. All four of these dogs have been neglected, but just looking at them it is probably no surprise to learn that Cinnamon and Baby's living conditions were the worst. They were found living in a room by themselves in several inches of excrement and urine. The rest of the house was covered in filth, but the NJSPCA and AC were most upset about Cinnamon and Baby's living conditions. They kept repeating how many inches of feces were in the room that these two poor dogs were forced to live. We are just thankful to the NJSPCA and AC that they are out of that house and safe. Baby, the Yorkie, is 10 years old. This little girl also came out of that house terrified. When we placed her in her crate, she went to the back and curled up with her back to us and refused to come out. Poor thing was so frightened. It looks as though Baby may have cataracts in both eyes. She will be going to the vet to have her eyes checked and a dental cleaning. We also took Baby to the groomer for a good bath and removal of all her matted hair. We know with time and love this girl will come out of her shell and learn the good life she has been missing all these years. Note: Baby has very limited sight. She bumps into things and cannot navigate stairs. She will need a place where she will be secure and not injure herself. Baby does get scared with new situations but who could blame her. Other than that Baby is sweet and super loving once she gets to recognize you. Baby is very cute when you see her nose going then she curls in your lap. She enjoys going outside as well. Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in New Jersey if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
