Animal ID: 17-058KY Sammy (male)

Yorkie Mix    Age: Adult

Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

SAMMY (KENTUCKY) Sammy is an 8 year old, 18 pound Yorkie mix being fostered in Covington, KY. Sammy's transformation has continued to make leaps and bounds toward a full recovery this past week. We hardly remember the sad, sickly looking fella that came to us because Sammy has begun to SHINE! He is now down to only one medication in the evening, daily ear cleanings and baths 3x per week. His skin is beginning to look pink and healthy, his fur thicker and fuller, and his foster parents cannot wait for that new peach fuzz to really start filling in the areas that had thinned from all of the infection. Sammy's personality has also perked up ... (Read More)immensely! The sleepy, timid Sammy that came to us two weeks ago is now alert, bouncing around with his foster brother, and so excited for walks to the park each day. His foster parents are still working on helping Sammy learn some good behaviors of sleeping through the night and teaching him how to let us know when he needs to go out to potty, but he has improved so much since day one. He loves attention from his human companions so much, he will follow you wherever you go--and is always so eager to please. We will miss this little guy so much when he leaves, but want nothing more than for Sammy to find a furever home where he will be loved and cherished the way he deserves to be. Sammy will visit the vet this Tuesday for a follow-up appointment to check his progress, and if all goes well, will be ready for adoption as soon as his teeth get cleaned and he is microchipped. Could Sammy be the right pup for you or someone you know? If so, please complete the adoption application located on our home page or email his foster parent at for more information. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in Kentucky
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Kentucky if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Piebald Yorkies came about by an accident of genetics in 1984 and are now considered a separate breed, the Biewer Yorkie. Yorkies have been popular ladies' lap dogs for many years.
