Animal ID: 16-159Maizie (female)

Yorkie    Age: Senior

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Maizie is fostered in Crestwood KY 40014, through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. To find out more about Maizie, contact her foster mamma through the question/inquiry link. Maizie is estimated to be a 10 year old, and weighs 4lbs. Maizie came to United Yorkie Rescue in September 2016 as a stray. When she arrived at the shelter she was in rough shape with hair loss, covered in fleas and missing all her teeth. She appears to have suffered extreme neglect. The shelter reached out to UYR to help Maizie and we gladly accepted. Maizie's been to the Vet and is in better condition. Her shabby appearance and hair loss is due to ... (Read More)flea dermatitis, easily treated and should grow back soon. She has some mild skin infection which is being treated with antibiotics. Maizie is missing all of her teeth and half of her lower jawbone due to lack of dental care. However, this doesn't keep this little chow-hound from gobbling up her soft food like a champ! The Vet said she is not terribly underweight for her small frame. She could probably stand to gain a few ounces. Maizie's most significant finding is that she has a condition called luxating patellas which means her knee caps are misaligned. This condition is very common in Yorkies and Maizie will be getting an evaluation soon to see if she needs to have these surgically repaired. She has difficulty walking so we are pretty sure this will be needed. If so, it will be expensive and Maizie will need your continued prayers and support. Maizie is SO THANKFUL to all the amazing people who have donated towards her care! She has never known such an outpouring of love and generosity as she has seen from her United Yorkie Rescue family! Maizie is such a sweetheart and LOVES to be held and cuddled. She will also bark and run a short distance to chase a toy or grab a soft treat from her person! Maizie will need to be on soft food for the rest of her life. She is mostly potty pad trained and will also go outside when taken but she will need a patient owner to continue to work with her and support good house training behaviors. We think that Maizie's perfect home will be with someone who is home a lot or able to take Maizie around with them since she loves to be with her person. She is definitely 'purse size' so that should be no problem. A stay at home person who would just love to have sweet Maizie in their lap getting cuddles would also be great for her. We want to make sure that the rest of Maizie's life is one where she will not be neglected and will get to squeeze a lifetime of love and attention into her remaining years. Maizie is very tiny and fragile so no homes with small children under the age of 14 please. To find out more about Maizie and her needs, contact her foster mamma at through the question/inquiry link. Yorkie    Age: Adult

Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Bio 9/9/16 Maizie is a tiny 4.3 pound, 8-9 year old Yorkie residing near Louisville, KY. Maizie has been seen by the Vet and we are happy to report she is in better condition than we had feared. Maizie is relatively healthy given her appearance and the fact that she was found roaming as a stray. Her hair loss is due to flea dermatitis and should grow back normally. She has some mild skin infection which is being treated with antibiotics. Maizie is missing all of her teeth and half of her lower jawbone due to lack of dental care. However, this doesn't keep this little chow-hound from gobbling up her soft food like a champ! The Vet ... (Read More)said she is not terribly underweight for her small frame. She could probably stand to gain a few ounces. She also has a condition called luxating patellas which means her knee caps are misaligned. This condition is very common in Yorkies and Maizie will be getting an evaluation soon to see if she needs to have these surgically repaired. We are also waiting on a couple of lab test results to come back too to see if she may have an underachieve thyroid. This too is common in Yorkies and easily treated. Maizie is such a sweetheart and LOVES to be held and cuddled. She will also bark and run a short distance to chase a toy or grab a soft treat from her person! Maizie will need to be on soft food for the rest of her life. PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in Kentucky
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Kentucky if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Yorkies were probably developed by Scotsmen working in Yorkshire, England. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed.
