|Rescue Me ID: 15-07-07-00182Sammy (male)|
Sammy born 6-21-08. Very energetic neutered male Maltese/yorkie mix. About 14 pounds. Loves to be with people. Needs to be the only pet in the family with experience with dogs. Leashed trained. Crate trained. Up to date on all shots and license renewed this year. Loves to be pet and have a lot of attention. We must rehome with very heavy hearts. We also have 2 older labs that Sammy became aggressive with one. (dropped food triggered a fight). We can not take a chance this will happen again. Sammy has always had an issue with one of our older dogs and we did not address it properly. He has general good health. Allergies and gets a daily zirtech to help control. (scratches at ears and this has helped greatly-vet approved.) Also on food for sensitive stomach. We will supply some food, allergy med, crate, his favorite dog beds and bones. He has many good years ahead of him and will make someone a very special pet. I am never able to sit without him coming and chilling with me. He loves to play fetch with a ball. He will greet you with much affection and love. If you seek a companion, don't have other pets and understand dogs, he will be a great pet for you! (Less)

|Animal ID: 15-071Coco (female)|
Initial Bio 05/29/15: Coco is a sweet 8 year old 12 lb female who was surrendered to a high kill shelter by her owners in NYC. Coco was in desperate need of a dental, a spay and had multiple mammary tumors that needed to be removed. UYR had the surgery done to spay her and remove her mammary tumors (9 tumors in total were removed) and she's been recovering well since then. We got the pathology back on the tumors and lymph nodes that they removed and 6 were benign, 2 were pre-cancerous and 1 was grade 1 cancer. The vet said that no further treatment would be recommended for the 1 grade 1 tumor as there was no lymph involvement and the removal of the tumor would be considered to be the treatment. So that's all good news. Coco has been suffering with some Colitis since she's been with us, but I think that's to be expected given all the changes in her environment, her diet, her surgery, her meds, etc. We're currently treating with Flagyl and Science Diet w/d food and it's resolving nicely. I'll be able to update on this more as she continues to stabilize in my home. At worst, she might need to be on w/d (or some prescription) food for the rest of her life. Coco walks beautifully on leash, and has a very calm demeanor. She doesn't get fussed by other dogs, or cats. She has liked all the people she's met as well. She will use a wee wee pad in the house if she has to, but think once she's healed up and walking regularly again, she'll potty outside all the time. Coco loves squeaky toys and has picked a few that have become her favorites in the short time she's been with us. She loves to be on or near her person, but doesn't mind sharing with the other pups in the home too. She's really a delightful little dog. Coco doesn't have a fenced in yard in her foster home, but if you had one, it would be a plus. We're working on her behavior riding in cars as she seems to be accustomed to riding on the lap of the driver, which is too dangerous, so she's learning that her seat in the back is where she belongs. Coco will have her stitches/staples removed on 6/6 and then will need a dental. She won't be available to go to her new home till she's recovered from her dental. If you think Coco would make a good addition to your family, please complete an application to adopt her. If you can donate to her care, Coco and all of us at UYR would sure appreciate it! Thanks, and stay tuned for more on Coco as we continue to learn more about this little sweetie! (Less)

Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in Connecticut if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.
