Harley was turned in by his owner because she was moving in with family and couldn't keep him. He appears to be a wirehaired terrier/Chihuahua mix. His coat is black and tan. He weighs about 12 pounds and his date of birth is 4/9/11. Harley is a little leery of strangers and will take time to warm up to you, but if given a chance he will be a loyal companion. Experienced dog owner recommended. $100 adoption fee, cash only, which is to help reimburse for a ... (Read More)portion of expenses of dog rescue and rehabilitation. Adoption contract required. We are looking for adopters who are willing and able to care for this dog for its lifetime (10+ years). Location: Quail Valley/Menifee, Southwest Riverside County. Local adoptions only; within 75 mile radius because we deliver animal to its new home to do a home/yard check. Our adoption process involves meeting the animal, either at Petco in Menifee on Saturdays from 10-2 or by appointment on other days at the rescue in Quail Valley. We have the best interest of the animal in mind and our goal is to find a good, permanent home for each of our rescued animals. We have the right to decline an application if we feel it is not a good match or fit for the animal. If you like the animal and we both feel it is a good match, an application and adoption contract is completed. A convenient day/time is arranged for us to deliver the animal to its new home to do a home check (to make sure the home is safe and secure). We will collect the adoption fee (cash only) when we deliver the animal to its new home. All our adoptions are on a trial basis because our goal is to have a successful adoption where the animal has a good permanent home and never ends up in a bad situation again. We ask that you give the animal a chance to adjust and settle in his new home and environment. Going to a new home with new people and a new environment is traumatic and stressful. It will take time for the animal to become comfortable around you and his/her new home. This should be a bonding period where you get to know the animal and connect with it, spend time with it and take things slow. He/she will need to get to know and trust you and learn the rules of the house and what is expected of him/her. This takes time, sometimes 2-3 weeks. During this time we will hold the adoption fee and if the adoption is not working out, we ask that you contact us and return the animal and we will refund your adoption fee. (Less)

Animal ID: 17-078Chersen (female)

Yorkie    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Chersen is fostered in the Orange County / San Bernardino County area through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. Chersen is a 7 yr. old, 10lb. Yorkie girl who came to United Yorkie Rescue in April 2017. Chersen was found at a high kill shelter, and as if that wasn't enough, she was left there with mammary tumors. After she came into rescue we sought the best care for her and in May she had surgery, followed by dental care and spaying. Great news followed her surgery, the tumors were benign and she's made a wonderful recovery! Chersen has been on a high quality organic diet, something that will be to her best interest for ... (Read More)the remainder of her life. She's such a beautiful, sweet, 'low-key' little girl. We've only heard her bark a total of three times since she arrived. Her tail wags constantly now, showing us her appreciation for every meal, walk and loving touch of our hands. Chersen used to be very fearful of being held and would just freeze until she was put back down on the floor. Now, she likes to be held, but only if sitting in one spot. She still doesn't' like to be carried around, but with time she may adjust. Chersen is trying very hard to leave her past behind and accept 'the good life'. Sometimes her foster mamma wonders if Chersen feels the kindness and love she's been getting is 'Too-Good-To-Be-True', no more being locked in a crate, no more being kicked, hit, yelled at or abused. Time heals all wounds, and we believe this is the case for Chersen. We've known for several weeks that Chersen's continued progress would just take time, and over the past couple of weeks her progress has picked up speed. She is now making complete eye-contact and seeking out attention. Chersen's progress has been so inspiring and heartwarming. She has quickly accomplished our short-tern goals. She is healthy and obviously no longer in pain from her mammary gland tumor, and dental issues. She has learned how to walk perfectly on a leash and is the first one to the door. She comes when called and is spending much more time with the family on her own. Chersen will need a loving and understanding home, a home that is quieter and provides her with the patience, love and admiration she so deserves.     Aria is nice to everyone and is friendly with other dogs as well. She loves going on walks, playing and lap sitting. We think she is housetrained, but it is hard to tell for sure in a kennel environment Aria is a sweet little girl who found herself at the Orange County Shelter with a terrible skin infection. For that, the shelter planned on putting her to sleep. So we came to her rescue. She has been on antibiotics for a couple of weeks and her skin is clearing up quite nicely. However, she will require medication for the long term, so we are looking for that special family or person who is willing to keep up with her meds so she ... (Read More)won't be itchy all the time. Yorkie    Age: Young Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Vaccinations Current

Maxwell is fostered Canyon Country CA 91387, through United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. Maxwell is a 10 yr old, 5 lb. Yorkie boy who came to United Yorkie in May 2016. Maxwell was an owner surrender to a shelter, after he got hurt. It's unknown how he was hurt but as it turned out he had a fracture pelvis and ended up having surgery, a Femoral Head Osteotomy, on the right hind leg. The surgeon didn't want to touch the pelvic fractures since they had begun healing nicely on their own. There was a small chance he'd need the same procedure on the other side in the future due to healing, however since his surgery, he's been ... (Read More)doing well and surgery has not been discussed. He's slowly been gaining strength and mobility and is going on longer walks, getting better through lots of love and help from his fur siblings. Maxwell is in physical therapy and will likely need to continue therapy, for mobility, for life. He loves to lie on the couch next to his foster mamma. He's learned to love treats of watermelon, banana, and home cooked chicken with sweet potatoes, carrots, and green beans are, he loves it all! Maxwell spins around in small circles when he gets exited and is a joy. He plays for hours with his foster fur siblings and loves it. Maxwell would benefit from having another dog in the home for companionship. Due to his size and injuries, no small children in the home. This little guy has been through a lot and is deserving of a quiet relaxing home where he'll be pampered and loved and treated like the special little guy he is. To find out more about Maxwell and his needs, contact his foster mamma through the question/inquiry link. Update: Maxwell is doing really well these day. The physical therapy is working and he is becoming a little miracle baby. He walked up a staircase of many stairs for the very first time a couple of days ago. I didn't think he would ever be able to do more than a couple of stairs. An adopter has to be 100% committed to continue these very simple exercises daily. It makes such a difference in his quality of life. To complete an application, go to United Yorkie Rescue http://unitedyorkierescue.org. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Yorkie in California
Yorkie Dogs can make good pets in California if they match your IifestyIe. The Yorkshire Terrier is a cute, spunky little dog with a true Terrier temperament. Yorkies can be dog aggressive and wary of strangers. Yorkshire Terriers are loving and devoted to their people and do fine with children who respect them. Yorkies respond well to firm, consistent obedience training but may require patience when housebreaking. They do fine in an apartment but need to play and be taken on a daily walk.

lnteresting Yorkie Trivia Low-Cost California Spay & Neuter Clinics
Yorkies were bred to hunt rats in the mines of north England. Yorkies were probably developed by Scotsmen working in Yorkshire, England. Yorkies used to be much larger but have gradually been bred down to become a miniature breed.
